Bored With Your Style? Five Easy Ways to Get a Fresh Look
We all get bored with the way we look once in a while. Heck, I can't tell you how many times I've thanked the good spirits of beauty products for the advent of at-home hair dye. I also can't tell you how many times, at the last minute, I have decided I'm just bored with my look, and make a snap decision to just up and change it.
It's a lot easier than you thought. All you need is a little imagination, sometimes a little bit of money, and a good eye, and you can instantly change your look for a better, fresher you.
One of my favorite ways to change up my look a bit is to go to the salon and get highlights. I'm a home hair colorer most of the time, however, when it comes to the delicate and easily botched job of highlighting, I let the professionals take over. I usually will just do my own base brunette color at home from a box, and then a few days later, once that color has set in, I visit my stylist and have her put highlights in.
You can go caramel, blond, reddish, copper, whatever you think might suit your current mood or the theme you're going for. You can go chunkier, skinnier, more natural looking, whatever is fitting both the season and the look you're going for. Highlights and coloring are one of the best ways to feel instantly prettier, more polished, and up to date looking.
Another way you can instantly change your style and even the way your face looks, is to buy a pair of good, natural looking colored contacts. When I say natural, I mean stay away from the ones that make you look like you're wearing a Halloween costume or belong in some sort of supernatural thriller. Instead, opt for the opaque colored contacts that are suitable for all colors of eyes, and make sure that you opt for the right kind if you have very dark eyes naturally, or they may not even look different if your eyes are overpoweringly dark.
Go for the tanner. Yes, I'm writing this in the dead of the winter, but if you want to make yourself look instantly different, like you've just been vacationing, or working out in the sun, for that healthy sun kissed, dewy look, use a great self tanner on you face. Make sure you get your neck too. One of my favorite self tanners for my face is actually in a spray form.
I like this because it's easy to apply, and I don't have to worry about it clogging my pores. I use a makeup sponge to blend it on my face and neck. You wouldn't believe how different you can look with some color. Your complexion looks instantly more perfect and even. Be sure to blend it all the way up into your hairline, so you don't end up with an obvious division between you natural winter pallor and your newly acquired faux tan.
Try out some new hair accessories if you want to make a splash. There are some great new skinny headbands out there that grip to your head like there's no tomorrow. I usually hate cloth headbands because they constantly slip off my head, but these new gripper ones have rubber on the inside, so they grab and grip to your head all day long, and they really are great for when you are having a bad hair day. Women of any age can use these, and they give a natural, youthful, fresh look, and are reminiscent of the sixties hair does since they push your hair up in the back, creating body and lift in the back.
There are also some great hair tools for putting your hair up in different styles. Hairdini, Puffy Pony Tails, Topsy Tails, just to name a few. These are all great ways to achieve an instantly new look for your hair that's easy and cheap.
Try out some different colors in your makeup palette. If you're used to always wearing browns, or you tend toward the more outrageous vibrant colors like purples and blues, try going completely opposite. I know that most people tend to look better in one family of colors, but there are several different hues available now in every family of color, and you can usually find one that suits your complexion if you just pick the right hues.
For example, I used to avoid yellows like the plague. Now, I've found that there are some awesome yellow colors with gold, warm undertones that suit me very well. If you're unsure, visit your department store's makeup counter, and experiment with different colors or have a professional assist you and let them know what your normal color choices are, and that you are looking to shake things up a bit. A good makeup artist will be able to show you tons of options and even new, fun ways to apply it that you may have never thought of.
